Program Topic:
Retirement Accounts Planning: An Estate Planner's Perspective
For many Americans, qualified plans and IRAs represent the largest part of their estates which, in some cases, surpasses the value of their homes. This discussion will cover practical estate planning techniques clients can use to better coordinate the after-death distribution of wealth contained in retirement accounts to beneficiaries. An overview of several types of trust strategies will be given, such as IRA Trusts (both Conduit and Accumulation trusts), QTIP Trusts for second marriage scenarios, Special Needs Trusts, and Charitable Trusts. Proper treatment of retirement accounts in a client's estate plan can provide beneficiaries with a lifetime of income and superior wealth-building opportunities while being competently managed and invested by a financial advisory firm.
